On the seventh day of christmas….

20 Dec

On the seventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me…..a pair of WA designed brocade jodhpurs from S & S valued at $175!!

1

S & S is the design collaboration between Shreeja Rajan and Shweta Desai.  Their aim is to to colour the world of fashion with the exclusive, ethnic and exotic individuality of Indian-ness. The label showcases a variety of Indian textiles, prints and textures mould into stylish silhouettes that are universal.

After two years of successfully custom designing for a number of clients, Shreeja Rajan and Shweta Desai alumnus of Sophia Polytechnic Institute, Mumbai, have brought together their individual styles and creativity to fashion their first official collection“turi” which is to be showcased in Perth,WA.

Shreeja Rajan ” I have always been hugely inspired by the raw and earthy nature of Indian textiles. The weaves, the prints and textures found in various corners of India are simply pure work of art. To me designing is more about creating art than fashion”

Shweta Desai ” My style is more inclined towards a brighter and fresher pallet with rusty undertones. I like experimenting with bold silhouettes and though I mostly prefer western cuts I always love to add an Indian touch.”

The label is a combination of art and innovation that aspires to take the humble weaves of India around the globe. We feel, if presented in the desired way, Indian textiles have immense potential to be accepted on an international level.

On the sixth day……

On the sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me….a family pass to Adventure World!!

School holidays are in full swing, and what better way to amuse the kids for an entire day than a trip to Adventure World.

The park’s newest attraction, the $12 million white-knuckle roller coaster Abyss, has already put Adventure World on the world theme park stage, thrilling roller coaster enthusiasts from around the globe. Abyss has gained worldwide exposure, with bloggers, journalists, theme park enthusiasts, tourists and industry experts from the USA, UK and Germany among those heaping praise on WA’s latest and most thrilling attraction.

For those seeking heart-stopping, stomach-churning thrills, Abyss has been a giant draw card.

The long-staying power of Abyss stays true to its promise that “you’ll never be the same again”. Western Force rugby player Nathan Charles told his fans via video that Abyss had his heart “pumping a million miles an hour” long after the ride had ended.

Now Perth’s favourite summer destination is working on an exciting new project for the site of its iconic castle, which was damaged by fire in early November.

Adventure World CEO Mark Shaw said “not only had it been business as usual since the fire, but also plans were already afoot to bring another attraction to the park to replace the castle”.

“After the incredible success of Abyss we want to keep up the momentum taking the theme park to a whole new level,” he said. “We are currently working on several ideas for the castle site so watch this space!”

Mr Shaw said Adventure World was gearing up for a sizzling summer, with attendance during the first weeks of the season unaffected by the fire.

“Operations at the park have continued largely as normal,” he said.

The third day of Christmas….

15 Dec

On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me …….float for me and a friend at Beyond Rest!

Western Australians now have access to an innovative stress-release therapy with the launch of Perth’s first floatation centre – CBD based Beyond Rest.

Created with the latest European technology, the relaxation experience involves floating in a sound proof tank of water, saturated with Epsom salts to aid buoyancy.

Nick Dunin, Beyond Rest Co-Founder, explains the floating experience has the ability to reduce stress and pain, improve sleep quality, reduce chronic muscle discomfort and facilitate relaxation.

“The experience of floating is the closest thing we have to drifting in outer space and we’ve harnessed current technology to create the best isolation experience from external senses currently in the world,” Nick says.

“This experience enables individuals to let their cares and worries float away, the tanks are sound proof and immersed in complete darkness.

“About 30 minutes into the floating experience the brain starts producing extra mood- boosting dopamine and endorphins.

“Given just one hour of floating roughly equates to four hours of sleeping, it’s an amazing experience and we’re very excited to bring it to Perth,” said Nick.

I trialed the tanks a little while ago, once in it took me about 5 minutes to fully relax into the water and to stop “trying to float” which we do naturally.  I drifted in and out of sleep during my hour.

Ben, the other owner of Beyond Rest, explained to me there was no risk of drowing though, as you fully buoyant and at worst would get a little water in your face which would wake you up.

Music is used to start the hour float and then again at the end to let you know its almost over.  Its like a deep meditation being in the tank.

“Spiritually, float tanks are like training wheels for meditation. People who have spent years meditating regularly can consciously make theta waves and remain awake. Float tanks accomplish the same thing effortlessly,” adds Nick.

After the float I have never felt more relaxed.  My muscles felt relaxed, my head was clear and I felt so peaceful.  Over the next few days alot of my friends commented on the fact I looked younger and my skin looked great, which would be due to the detoxing effects of the salts.

“We’re excited to now offer this unique treatment to Western Australians, it’s already proving to be one of the most relaxing things locals have ever experienced and is assisting individuals to let the cares of the outside world slip away.

“It turns out when you’re not fighting gravity or constantly taking in information, your body has a lot of extra resources at its disposal,” Nick concludes.

After your session you can retreat to the relaxation room, where the team offer herbal teas, water and a range of books.  You can simply chill out, chat to the team, ask questions and complete your experience by not feeling rushed out the door.

My verdict : I am addicted.  When the finishing music came on I didn’t want it to end!   I left the experience feeling as though I had just had a weekend escape.

For those time poor people this is perfect, its the ultimate time efficient relaxation process and is so effective.

For those who just love a great escape, its just like taking a weekend off and yet only takes an hour!

Beyond Rest is located at 125 Edward Street, Perth.

The centre is open from 8am-9pm Monday-Friday, Saturdays 8am-5pm and Sundays 11am-5pm.

Wild about Wildhorses

Wildhorses AW13 Collection is based on simple designs and structures using high quality fabrics and textures. “I wanted the collection to be trans-seasonal and very wearable for our Perth winter weather,” says Nat, designer for WIldhorses. The collection comprises of neutral tones and classic cuts with a twist, pieces which can be easily integrated into everyday items, make us totally fall in love with this collection. The most exciting part for Nat is to see those garments come to life when the samples are delivered. ” Sometimes the samples surprise you – most of the time in a good way. As they always turn out a little different to what you thought they would from the initial sketch,” says Nat.
Nat had plenty of work cut out this season expecting baby number 2, showcasing at PFF, releasing her Winter 13 collection, being part of the Northbridge Pop up Shop and sampling her Summer 13 collection we had to know her secret to keeping her energy levels up? “Coffee, a shower and lollies!” she confessed. So what is amongst Nats must have items for this Winter? “A staple leather jacket and ankle boots,” Her fave piece from her own collection? “The Ricci Jacket in gold metallic.” Our must have pick the High Society drape jacket, which we think would look totally fabulous with any outfit.
We look forward to filling our wardrobes with Wildhorses this winter…enjoy your sneak peek Sheila fans, make sure you tell us all your favourite picks..
